McCain Racist?

In a presidential election so highly focused on race, a lot of incidents have come to surface lately. Recently, Rev. Jeremiah Wright was blasted for a racial sermon he gave in which many not so decent remarks were made against Hillary and just caucasions in general. Rev. Wright, who is also known as Obama's spiritual leader, caught a lot of slack for his remarks. And in turn, so did Obama. However, the media seems to be over looking the fact that McCain himself has made quite a few racists remarks. First, there was the incident in the 2000 election where he was quoted saying "I hated the gooks. I will hate them as long as I live." [Gooks are to Asians what Niggers are to Blacks]. Also, there is the fact that in 1983 (and repeatedly after that), he voted AGAINST making Martin Luther King Day a holiday in his home state of Arizona. [An action which supposedly regrets doing and now "supports" the fact that the decision was overturned] "A mistake I myself made long ago, I myself made long ago, when I voted against a federal holiday in memory of Dr. King," says McCain. He cites "being overseas in the Vietnam war" as an excuse as for why he voted against it; saying that he was "unaware of the importance of Dr. King's work". In addition to these, he repeatedly voted against the Civil Rights Act of 1990, he said that he would not support affirmative action policies in public college admission, and "he voted against a bill designed to address employer discrimination at least four times".

I realized a lot of this information may be a little dated, however do people really change? Yes he might say NOW that he regrets what he did. But does he really mean it? How can you regret it if you did it REPEATEDLY? And how can you NOT know how important Martin Luther King was? He is probably saying that he regrets it now just so he can get the "black vote". But is this really who you want for your President?
