Obama and The Pledge
A picture has been running ramped through e-mail of Senator Barack Obama, Senator Hillary Clinton, Governor Bill Richardson, and Ruth Hark all standing in a row with their hands over their hearts, except Barack Obama. It has rumored that it was not the pledge of allegiance that he was not participating in but the National Anthem. The National Anthem is just as important as the Pledge of Allegiance in the eyes of most Americans. The picture is a visual to the real ethics of some of the people running for our vote as president. I believe a president of the United States needs to show respect to all parts of the countries patriotism. As a citizen of the United States we should hold our hand over our heart and remove our hats for both of the outward expressions of patriotism. It is a symbol of respect and as a potential voter it does not look good when a candidate running for political office does not show respect to the country it supposedly wants to run and support.

I understand how this can appear to the American people seeing a presidential candidate not fully participating in the Pledge of Allegiance or even the National Anthem. But When I was in elementary school all the way until high school, we had a choice whether of not we wanted to participate in the Pledge of Allegiance. Those who didn't participate would just stay silent and respect those who chose to recite it. I disagree with you in saying that he is not showing respect to this country. Everyone has their own way of showing their patriotism and now a days, living in such a diversed country we must be open-minded about everyone's culture, not take offense when they don't participate in ours.
Interesting. I wonder if the photo is real ... or at least, is it in context? (Suppose Obama had just sneezed or something, and so it only appeared that he wasn't reciting the pledge.
