Offensive Ad

As I was scrolling through a list of offensive ads and I found one by Dolce and Gabbana that is really outrageous. There are hundreds of ads that can be considered to be offensive, as one’s judgment is highly subjective and varies from person to person. Some may find some ads to be offensive where others may think the same advertisement is acceptable, but this Dolce and Gabbana advertisement can be nearly unanimously agreed to be offensive. The advertisement in this photograph shows a woman who is being pinned down by a man with four other men around her. The woman seems helpless on the ground and the men are calmly watching.

First of all, this advertisement gives a sense of male dominance, as the men are overpowering and outnumbering the female in this advertisement. It also gives the message of gang rape, and shows it almost as if it is acceptable. The ethical issues with this advertisement are that it shows men overpowering women, which is a wrong message to give off. Another message that this advertisement gives off is that it is acceptable to pin down a woman, which is also a wrong message. Lastly, with regard to the actual advertising of the image, this advertisement has absolutely nothing to do with the products that Dolce and Gabbana sell. If there were not big letters in the middle of the page saying it, I would have no clue that this advertisement is for Dolce and Gabbana. This advertisement should not be in circulation, as it serves no purpose and it is highly offensive.
